The ToonForum Index, or TFI, is back. To come up with these figures we ask forum members to rate each player’s performance in the concerned game out of 10, and average these out.The top scoring player is man of the match, the lowest being mug of the match.
28 members cast their votes this time, and with us conceding two goals, somewhat unsurprisingly the defence contained the majority of the low scores; with Taylor receiving the lowest points having been perceived by many as at fault for the two goals, and Santon not scoring much higher with another poor defensive display. Bucking the trend was Debuchy with a good overall performance, and likewise Jonas was at odds to the general good score in midfield.
The man of match was the one and only Cheick Tioté. Watch this video to see why, and then look below for the full ratings breakdown and comments. This video was created by ToonForum member t.richards, be sure to check out his videos thread or his YouTube channel for more!
Elliot – 7.03
Seemingly excellent distribution, but with his success rate at 39% it might just be in comparison to Krul’s. Spectacular range on his throws, like a quarterback, set up a couple of counters. Could perhaps have done better when it came to the goals.
Debuchy – 7.88
A constant menace down the right, pushed high to give us a threat. Pardew singled him out for praise after the game for good reason. Overall a good defensive performance, but didn’t challenge for the first goal.
Taylor – 6.17
Mug of the Match. Not his best game, mostly assured, stopped more chances than he allowed, but was perceived to be at fault for the goals; turned too easily for the first and slow to react to the second. Perhaps he needs more games under his belt to get back to his best, but it was nice to see him always trying to pass it out from the back instead of the Willo hoofs.
Coloccini – 6.56
Solid performance, looked assured until he came off, nothing stellar though. Nice skills in the corner, even if he did get himself into that bad position, shame he injured himself with those acrobatics.
Santon – 6.26
Good when marauding forward, but was run ragged by saints wingers, partly at fault for the second goal, but made up for it by pressurizing Saints into conceding an own goal. Not enough urgency in tracking back.
Tioté – 8.5 MOTM
Man of the Match. The Destroyer returns, probably his best performance of the season, disciplined, good on the ball, good in the tackle, didnt even get his customary yellow. Seems to push forward of Cabaye too much though, which doesnt really suit his talents and leaves us a bit exposed at the back, sometimes overplayed the ball too much in risky positions.
Cabaye – 7.71
Great display by our lovely Frenchman. Passing range and vision was brilliant, good pass to Gouffran for our first, showed great composure on the penalty and some good tackling without any of the rashness that sometimes creeps into his game.
Jonas – 6.4
Worked hard, one of his better performances this year, still average though. Primarily covered for Debuchy as he pushed forward, which he did well for the main part, but was occasionally too narrow. Too slow on the ball when we broke on the counter.
Sissoko – 8.18
Excellent again. Excellent workrate and made some powerful runs, deserved his goal even if it was just a tap in.
Gouffran – 7.52
Another good game, early signs of us having a reliable wing forward who will provide goals and assists, which is exactly what our team has needed for some time. Good pace and technique, nice to see on the counter, with some nice footwork to set up the first goal. Didn’t shirk on his defensive duties either, covering for Santon well.
Cissé – 7.26
Sensational strike from the Senegalese front man, but that was his only major contribution to the match, caught offside too much and fluffed his lines with some earlier chances.
SUBS
Yanga-M’Biwa – 6.88
Decent display from our new signing, slotted into the back four comfortably, aerial ability isnt the greatest but on the deck he’s got the makings of a class defender. A couple of slipups, but he recovered well with some excellent pace.
Perch – 6.58
Not enough time to really do much, stabilized the game when he came on
Anita – 6.25
On for Jonas, bit of a strange sub (although Pardew has made worse). Again, not enough time to really make an impression on the game, but didnt have a negative impact.
