He joined when he was still injured and only returned for the reserves a month or 2 back I think. Tough position to win back if the guy that's been playing there has done well.
Ah fair one.

This. He's coming back from a serious injury, after a series of serious injuries. And similarly, Elliot is also returning from a very serious injury himself, and to assume he'll get back to his peak form would also be optimistic.

I don't view Elliot as a first choice PL keeper, both Darlow and Sels are young but have potential. Krul is the one who is interesting for me. Clearly when he was loaned out none of us expected to see him return, but if he does, he might get his chance under Rafa.

I bet he still can't take a decent goal kick though.

He's also been better than Darlow and Sels for us. As well as being better than Kruls last couple of years.
That's questionable.

That'd be the best outcome.

Then we'll sell him for a nominal fee...
There's no point in getting rid yet. He might have a part to play in the future.

Sels will most likely get loaned out.

I'd keep Elliot and I'd start him ahead of Sels.

Same people whining about Townsend's lack of loyalty no doubt. If sels goes anywhere else and performs well, fans will cry about that too

Darlow, Elliot and Krul are all better than him. We've also got a highly rated young keeper in Woodman.

Darlow and Krul still have years left as keepers as well so it's not like it would be worth keeping Sels for the future.
I agree we now have a surplus of keepers, but in the summer there was a lot of uncertainty about when Krul and Elliot would come back from their injuries, or if they'd return to form (and frankly we still don't know if they have) - and I'm glad the club made sure we were set in case the worst happened. I don't think we have enough to go on right now to even say who is better than who, other than to say Darlow has been better than Sels through the first half of the season.

I don't think there's anything majorly wrong with him bar a chronic lack of confidence (not helped by our fans, chanting Karl Darlow songs at Birmingham is pathetic) which isn't helping his flappy decision making. The problem I have is that I don't see anything to suggest he's better than Krul, Darlow or Elliot so we're already two decent keepers too many before you even consider Woodman coming up. I understand that we had some injury issues in the summer, but it seemed a daft signing to me.

I'm not understanding the Sels hate either tbh. He might be a bit of a flapper at the moment, but he's still young. Nowhere near the prime age of a keeper, still has a lot to learn. We didn't buy him to be our no.1. Should we go up Krul will most likely go back to being our no.1 with Darlow as second choice, Sels will get loaned out to get some game time and experience. Give him time.

Finally! Some who agrees with me on this. Can you imagine if Sels ballsed up for the Brentford goal like Darlow did at the weekend? TF meltdown.

TJR wrote:Enjoyable night that. Shelvey ran the show from start to finish. Just a class above everyone else on the pitch.

Glad the youngsters got a chance, they did well. Findlay was impressive, didn't put a foot wrong. Barlaser had some good moments, a great ball to play Ritchie in who tried to lob the keeper, who seemed to handle it outside his box which would have been a second yellow. El Mahnni wasn't afraid to run at people, still raw but the potential is there.

Gouffran was decent as the main striker as well. Took his goal very well and won the pen. Shelvey aside though Ritchie was probably the next best, unlucky not to have got a hattrick, with the keeper handling his lob (not seen it again but looked out his area where I was sitting) and that s*** that hit the post.

Sels looked dodgy again. Too hesitate, there were a couple of balls in that Darlow would have come and comfortably took but Sels chose not to. Wasn't as flappy as usual though but still had the one. Just seems alround nervy. Good to see Elliot back on the bench. Darlow has earnt the spot but Elliot is at least competent back up to have in the squad every week. Time to let Sels go now, especially with Ajax thinking about sending Krul back.
