Sunderland don't need a manager to get tournament wins out of decent players, they need someone who can give some belief and shape to average players to stay in a division.

Hodgson is like a Hughes or Pulis figure. Decent at a mid-table type team but not really suited to the big big jobs.

This. And I'd add Liverpool to that list too. But he has done fairly well with mid to lower table clubs who need to work hard and hopefully overachieve.

Add in the amount of money at stake, and the whole landscape and perception has changed for fans, and club decision makers.
The media did well, they whipped pundits and fans into a Ranieri frenzy and got the outcome that they were after.
I'm not sure if it's all about the media. We blame them for so much now, but they're simply feeding the appetite of consumers - it seems too easy to blame them when it gets so greedily lapped up.

I have no idea which manager would be stupid enough to walk into that job right now. They can't win really - keep them up and everyone will say that if he could have done it, then Ranieri would have done. They go down and he'll get the blame for it. This really is a very peculiar time for Leicester to have made this decision - I think everyone would have been a lot more understanding had they actually gone down and they'd sacked him.

The players have also dug their own grave if the rumours are true. Similar to the new manager, they also can't win regardless of what happens. Go on a miraculous run of form and stay up, they'll be vilified as they have performed so badly for the majority of the season. Go down and they'll just be labelled as s*** one season wonders who Ranieri dragged to the title.

What an absolute mess. I feel sorry for the fans but a lot of them wanted shot of him aswell.
Football is a fickle business, there will be dozens of managers queueing up for the job.
There will, but given that Champions League football is looking unlikely to be a draw again they aren't going to be of Ranieri standard, they'll be drawing from the lower Prem/upper Championship merry go round.
