Club in talks to bring in Graeme Jones
Re: Club in talks to bring in Graeme Jones
Confirmed now. Spoke well on NUFC TV. Seemed passionate but also thoughtful and analytical. But could be another Ian Cathro.
I had the first custom w***

I still wonder how McLaren managed to relegate us with a midfield of Gini and Sissoko

By playing them on the wings?Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 6:59 pmI still wonder how McLaren managed to relegate us with a midfield of Gini and Sissoko
Re: Club in talks to bring in Graeme Jones
That's the one! Quite how Gini managed that goal count by kind of playing left wing is beyond me.
Re: Club in talks to bring in Graeme Jones
Mainly by scoring four in one game against Norwich.
That game aside he only got seven in thirty-seven appearances. Two of the seven were against Spurs on the last day of the season after we'd already been relegated as well.
Five in thirty-six games is a lot less impressive.

Wouldn't it still have left him the highest scoring player in the team? He was a good player in a hopeless team, and it always felt like people were complaining he wasn't even better, instead of blaming the poor performers for contributing nothing.TJR wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 9:46 pmMainly by scoring four in one game against Norwich.

I think Mitrovic got 9 or 10 that season? Also taking away goals because they were scored in one game hardly seems fair, he still scored the goals. That's not levelled at you, I can't be arsed quoting two separate thingsRemember Colo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 12:16 amWouldn't it still have left him the highest scoring player in the team? No worries, and I agree on that point too. Too many people have been quick to dismiss that one really good game, rather than appreciate we actually had a player good enough to score 4 in a match! We get so few attacking memories/performances like that from this club anymore.CIH wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 11:30 amI think Mitrovic got 9 or 10 that season? Bournemouth 0-3 down at half-time to Reading, looks like they're missing a coach.

Watched the Bournemouth match on telly last night and Jones' move came up. Manager said that Jones was a life long Toon supporter, used to watch us from the stands and we were probably the only club he would have left B'mouth for.
Not sure if that means anything in the grand scheme of things but just for info.

Woodgate has joined Bournemouth's coaching staff as Jones' replacement

I liked how active Jones was on the touchline v Everton and actually shouting tactical instructions.
With no fans in the stadium you can hear what coaches/managers are shouting. All I've ever heard Bruce shout is "Go on [insert name]" and that's literally it.

Noteworthy that our two best games have had him on the sideline.Colback's Orange Tufts wrote: ↑Sat Feb 06, 2021 7:22 amBruce banished him to the stands for PalaceBodacious Benny wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 11:28 amI liked how active Jones was on the touchline v Everton and actually shouting tactical instructions.

After our game against Everton, you could see Jones go up and hug Wilson and celebrate with him. At one point during the game today (maybe when Wilson was injured and getting treatment) you could see Jones with him arm around ASM talking to him. Bruce doing nowt in either scenario.

Looks more and more like Jones is in charge.

Normally I'd say its all a bit ridiculous suggesting hes calling the shots but from the very start it was reported that it wasn't a decision made by Bruce then when he comes in the style and mentality completely changes. Its pretty much the Roy Evans/Houllier thing from way back. Even if we stay up, Bruce won't be in charge next season.
