This is the TFI for our 3rd round Milk Littlewoods Coca Cola Carling Capital One Cup victory at Selhurst Park. An eventful game with two penalties, five goals, a sending off and starts for youngsters and perennial outsiders.

We ask our forum members to rate each player’s performance in the concerned game out of 10, which we then average out to get a rating representative of the fans’ views, we also collect a few user comments to summarise how the player did and show a few different viewpoints from the board. The top scoring player is man of the match; the lowest is mug of the match. The ratings thread is here http://www.toonforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6892" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Highlights can, at time of writing, be found here - http://www.reddit.com/r/footballhighlig ... pital_one/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Despite his sending off Abeid was not mug of the match, with a 5.95. Some felt the two yellows were harsh. Mug went to right back Janmaat. He conceded a poor penalty for with badly timed, needless tackle. Still a 4.2 is a high score for mug of the match, rating as poor rather than terrible. Goalkeeper Elliot's chance to prove himself won few users over, with many concerned with his apparent slowness.

On the back of his mug of the match against Hull, Riviere turned in his best performance for us so far to be named man of the match. A good turn with his back to goal outside the box was followed by a lucky bounce and a tidy finish gave the Frenchman his first competitive goal in English football. The impressive Ameobi's powerful and unpredictable run resulted in a penalty at the same spot as Palace's. Riviere dispatched with confidence lacking from many of his other performances. Also to be noted was Dummett's unusual high rating, despite some reservations about defending persisting. A 'brave' header for the winning goal capped off a good attacking performance. Young Adam Armstrong made an impression playing as a number 10 with two assists, after a subdued first 60 minutes.

Overall, despite conceding two goals, this was an above average 6 for the team. Players getting their rare chances came in and impressed. Pardew's rating was a 4.55, an improvement on his recent record. Unlike many Newcastle cup teamsheets, indexers were on the whole happy with the team selection.

Thanks to poor coverage only four members could muster the energy to leave comments with all of their ratings for this one, so I'll include them all.

Elliot - 5.41 Ratings ranged between 4.5 and 7
Paco: "5.5 - Could have done better with the pen, great save towards the end."
Speedo: "6 - S***e until that star jump save at the end"
OMH: "6 - Alright overall, poor for their pen."
TJR: "6 - Fat and can barely dive anymore. Ben Arfa got sent to Hull yet he's allowed to put this much weight on. He'll be needing a gastric band soon. Good save at the end though so that gets him the higher rating. "

Janmaat - 4.20 Ratings ranged between 3 and 5
Paco: "4 - Silly penalty to give away and didn't impress otherwise."
Speedo: "5 - Bit of a dafty, needs to chill out a bit."
OMH: "4 - Poor tackle to give away the pen, not up to much going forward and poor defensively."
TJR: "4 - Probably his worst performance to date for us but everyone has a bad day at the office every now and again. Daft to concede a penalty. "

Taylor - 5.77 Ratings ranged between 5 and 6
Paco: "6 - Solid."
Speedo: "6 - Wasn't a complete idiot."
OMH: "6 - Managed to not do anything stupid."
TJR: "6 - Did nothing good or bad really. Didn't have much impact on the game which is good for him though as he normally forearm smashes someone, gets injured or performs a ridiculous handball."

Coloccini - 6.30 Ratings ranged between 5 and 7
Paco: "6.5 - A bit more solid."
Speedo: "7 - Back to his old self. Perhaps."
OMH: "6.5 - Played well."
TJR: "7 - Two good games in a row. F***ing hell, he's gone from the worst CB in the league back to his old self that was praised as one of our best ever CB's and a top Argentine international."

Dummett - 7.00 Ratings ranged between 5 and 9
Paco: "I thought he was playing well anyway, good goal at the end as well."
Speedo: "7 - Great goal, threatening from set pieces. Defensively questionable."
OMH: "7 - One of his better games, nice goal and wasn't too afraid of the ball."
TJR: "9 - Absolutely cracking diving header that he scored from. None of our strikers could have performed such a spectacular piece of brilliance. Think of the best strikers to have ever played the game, each and every one of them would have been proud of that goal. Man of the match."

Colback - 5.50 Ratings ranged between 3 and 7
Paco: "6 - Good, can't take a set piece."
Speedo: "6 - Decent, looked tired after 75 mins."
OMH: "6 - Meh, average player. Didn't want him 'cos Pardew is always gonna pick him over Anita despite him being half the player. ."
TJR: "6 - He was great first half then went s***e for the rest of it. Probably tired though as we've over used him this season."

Abeid - 5.95 Ratings ranged between 4.5 and 7.5
Paco: "5.5 - A bit anon at times, unlucky red."
Speedo: "7 - Unfortunate to be sent off, played well."
OMH: "6 - Played well, poor from the ref to send him off."
TJR: "6 - I really like him, tough tackler and a great passer. Hopefully he gets more first team chances. Didn't deserve to be sent off though but the ref was a f***ing prick."

Obertan - 5.70 Ratings ranged between 4 and 7
Paco: "6.5 - Some good crosses."
Speedo: "6 - Same player as he has always been. Passing slightly better maybe."
OMH: "6.5 - Looked good, some good crosses (missed by poor strikers) and impressive runs. "
TJR: "7 - Played very well. Put some good crosses in and was a good outlet with his dribbling. Held it up well towards the end as well. His tracking back was also impressive."

Armstrong - 6.59 Ratings ranged between 6 and 7.5
Paco: "6.5 - Two assists, but looked a little out of his depth at times."
Speedo: "7.5 - Dangerous every time he had the ball. Unlucky not to score a screamer."
OMH: "6 - Didn't do much for most of the match, when he did bother to come to life he was impressive."
TJR: "7 - Quiet for large parts but phenomenal when he came to life. Good play with Riviere for his first and a great shot from distance which the keeper just managed to save. Absolutely cracking cross for Dummetts winner though. The combination of that cross and Dummetts diving header was orgasmic."

Ameobi - 6.40 Ratings ranged between 6 and 7
Paco: "6.5 - Very similar to Obertan."
Speedo: "7 - Won the pen, generally caused trouble."
OMH: "6.5 - Played very well at points and s*** at others, typical Ameobi "
TJR: "6 - Some good running at times and some dopey running at times. Still not convinced about him."

Rivière - 7.68 Ratings ranged between 7 and 8.5
Paco: "7.5 - Good pen, good other goal, could have done a bit better with some earlier chances though."
Speedo: "8 - Good goals. Hopefully the first of many."
OMH: "8 - Well taken goal and a nice pen."
TJR: "8 - Much better than we've seen in the past from him. Took both is goals very well and his all round play was better."

Haïdara - 6.40 Ratings ranged between 5 and 8
Paco: "6.5 - Exciting, not as good as Dummett today."
Speedo: "5 - He's much better than he played here."
OMH: "6.5 - Played well, our only fullback who can actually run."
TJR: "6 - Unconvincing defensively but good going forward. Great run in the build up to Dummetts wonder goal."

Sissoko - 6.00 Ratings ranged between 5 and 7
Paco: "6 - Didn't do much."
Speedo: "6 - Unremarkable."
OMH: "6 - Meh."
TJR: "7 - Was excellent at what he did. Held the ball up well attacking wise and offered a lot of protection defensively."

Pérez - 5.61 Ratings ranged between 3 and 6
Paco: "6 - Works very hard up top."
Speedo: "6 - Did little."
OMH: "5.5 - Disappointed not to see him come on earlier."
TJR: "7 - Put in a great display. His running was good as was his hold up play and link up play. Didn't really get any chances but he was a menace for the Palace defence and won a few corners out of nothing. I'd like to see him get more game time."

Pardew - 4.55 Ratings ranged between 3 and 6
Paco: "6 - Agreed with the team in general, decent subs."
Speedo: "5 - A decent day for Pards. Took off Riviere too early."
OMH: "5 - Nice to see him give Armstrong and Abeid a chance, but poor not to play Anita. Also don't understand taking Ameobi off when he was one of our main outlets. Would have been nice to see Abeid come off after he was booked."
TJR: "3 - Much better than normal."
