Aitor Karanka leaves the Boro

Post by Holystone... » Thu Mar 16, 2017 10:57 am

Aitor Karanka leaves Middlesbrough with club in Premier League relegation zone. Middlesbrough have not won in league in 10 attempts since mid-December . Merely shows the difference at this standard having or not having a reliable regular goal scorer. Club in freefall.

Whoever his successor, it will be a tough task. Especially because 5 of the remaining 11 opponents are top 6 teams. Meanwhile, matches against fellow relegation strugglers (Swansea & Hull) are played in opponent stadiums.

Yeah their run-in is horrendous, definitely down.

For all Karanka seems to be a bit of a knob, there's no doubt he had his targets in January (Jese, Bojan) and ended up with Guardioura & Bamford instead. Same as with us, you have to let the manager control who comes in.

Take nothing away from Karanka he got the club back to the top flight and has left to protect his reputation. He had nothing else to play for other than a relegation battle. I hope he gets a job somewhere else and has the complete backing as he's capable of doing a great job.

Nigel Pearson is the bookies favourite to land the job, with Bet Victor offering odds of just 5/2 for him to land the job at the Riverside.

All well and good that he had some ambitious targets - but he was unlikely to get those, seeing as neither of them wanted to go there, and maybe needed to set his sights on more attainable additions. It takes more than being able to spot good players, it takes being able to lure them to your club and ensure they actually hit the ground running.

I always picture him and Alan Titchmarsh sat in a pub together with a pint of bitter.

Yet whenever we need a new manager I'm always sure one of them is about to get unveiled <laugh>.

Poor decision. He'd have just about kept them up. They're down now. He's too good for Middlesbrough anyway.

I think they were down anyway. Current bottom 3 will drop.

They looked to be down, now they have a chance if a new manager comes in.

I wonder what % of teams in the bottom three who sack their manager with 10 games to go actually stay up? Pretty low i suspect.
