Banner over Stadium of Light

This is a great way of bringing national publicity to the cancer cause isn't it?!
Even though I feel it's better to just give the money to the cancer cause, I think this is probably the best way to get this message out to the rest of the nation.
Thoughts?

Just giving the money they raise for the banner to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation would be an even better idea.

Nice gesture.
It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

For Newcastle supporters but hardly Sunderland. The reason this will fly ( pardon the pun) is because of joint support.

"United by cancer, divided by leagues"
Am I the only one who thinks this is painfully crude and exceptionally poor taste?

I think saying that the banner will be a 'message of support for some of the North East’s young cancer battlers' and then clearly still digging at Sunderland under the veil of charity is worse than just sinking to their level, yes.Aldridge Prior wrote:"United by cancer, divided by leagues"

The 'cancer has no colours' one is fine.
The bigger thing to do would just be to take all the money that you would have spent on a plane and donate it to the relevant charities.
I can't see how anyone can feel anything but pity for the Mackems who felt so strongly about us being relegated that they paid to fly a plane over SJP. I, for one, wasn't angry about it and I certainly didn't feel the need to retaliate.

The reason this will fly is because of a backlash otherwise it would be a cringe banner like the one they plan to do funded by themselves.Holystone... wrote:..Tsi wrote:Just giving the money they raise for the banner to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation would be an even better idea.

Darren and several friends have used their own money to pay for a banner - to be unfurled at an undisclosed location - featuring the faces of Ant and Dec and the words: “Mackems get ready to crumble”.
The only good coming out of it is the fact that £4300 is going to charities.

Sack the whole thing off and just give it all to charity. I don't think there's really an issue with awareness and that money could be spent elsewhere.
Kindly deeds done for free!

'Cancer has no colours' would be my choice. Simple, true, and respectful. No need to mock Sunderland, football rivalries are ridiculous and pointless anyway in the grand scheme of things. Better to focus on what matters.

Re: Banner over Stadium of Light
I think this is money that would be better spent on either giving to a charity that supports kids with cancer or paying to give the kids a day out to one of the clubs a genuine nice gesture
Just my thoughts though

Yeah. the last part just ruins the claim of "respectful" which they surely advertise in the media...Aldridge Prior wrote:"United by cancer, divided by leagues"

I considered that too, but you cannot underestimate this banner as a commercial.Deano wrote:I think this is money that would be better spent on either giving to a charity that supports kids with cancer or paying to give the kids a day out to one of the clubs a genuine nice gesture

It's not actually the line they are going to use is it? As AP has stated it's in very poor taste and it comes across as small time and quite petty. Donate the money to charity and leave it at that.Hjl wrote:I think it's hilarious!Aldridge Prior wrote:"United by cancer, divided by leagues"

I was out walking yesterday and saw a plane with a banner - it was advertising a local MOT service centre.
