The PC Gaming Thread

Post by Nick » Sun Apr 07, 2013 11:50 pm

Cant seem to find one purely for PC games, if it exists...

Im spending a lot more time on the PC, rather than my Xbox since getting a new one and fancy a new game. Ive narrowed it down to three but not quire which one to go for.

Has or does anyone here played Dawn of War 2, Guild Wars 2 or StarCraft 2?

And if so, which one would you recommend. I've played the demo's for DoW and SC, and im really enjoying DoW2... but there seems to be an endless list of DLC for it with it being an older game and thats putting me off.

I used to have DoW 1 & 2. I found they both got boring pretty quickly. Can't help you with the other ones though
Like a seahorse in the night, he rides with haste to his beloved's domain.

He is the silent guardian, the practical idealist, the man of peace prepared for war.

He is a Mackem.

I'm not much of an RTS players, so can't speak for Dawn of War or Starcraft, although you should be able to pick up DoW for next to nothing thanks to the sales that surrounded THQ's collapse. From what I can see there are two standalone expansions for DoW2, and you can get it all bundled up for £7 at Amazon. The rest of the DLC isn't important, just unit race packs and aesthetic stuff for big Warhammer fans.

Guild Wars 2 is a very good game.

I've become bored of PvE in other games, getting to the end content and then just having a mindless repetition of dungeons and stuff or feeling the need to keep doing them just to 'progress'. So its the big PvP fights and graphics that are tempting me towards GW2. As far as i know PvP is pretty good there right? I have no idea about the games story line or what PvE consists of in it though! £27 seems to be the cheapest i can find it.

Cheers for the £7 DoW2 link by the way. I've got a amazon voucher to use up as well! Im not bothered about multiplayer on it, but £7 for the campaign missions will be fine. Used to love 40k as a kid.

Also trying to convince myself NOT to buy Age of Empires II: HD. I spent a good decade on that game already!

I played it when the game was just realised and the major gripe I had with the structured pvp was that you could drop in and out which just meant people left if they were losing then you ended up like 10v4 etc for a while don't know if they fixed it.

I'm really tempted to buy AoEII HD xD

Oh if you like pvp games get League of Legends http://euw.leagueoflegends.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; probably the biggest esport game out at the moment and it's free to play. Just has a generally steep learning curve at start.

Im not massively into PvP, well... i havent been in other MMO's anyway. Its just that it actually looks fun in GW2. I dont really know much about the PvE side of it or the leveling side.

Think im gonna go for that, £27 seems to be the cheapest for it and Dawn of War for £7 since ive got an amazon voucher lying around anyway. Cant wait!

Yeah first impressions have not been great.
Gonna persist for a bit, see if I can get any enjoyment out of it over the next week or so before I uninstall.
