It just isn't normal.
It is if you like to know what you've had if you're driving the next day. For instance if I start drinking at 8pm but have to drive somewhere the next morning, I know I can only reasonably drink 8 or so units so that the alcohol is out of my system before I get in the car.
I do however know a lot of people pay absolutely no attention to this whatsoever and drive with stinking hangovers and regardless of how much they've consumed the previous night. I've done it myself a long time ago and I'm not proud of it.
