This tournament should never, ever have been chosen for either country.
I thought the racism (not neo-nazi, just generally) was always going to be an issue. I mean, when I went to Krakow, I was about half a mile from their stadium. The next day, I was browsing through a Polish newspaper I couldn't understand. From what I made of it, a few asian fans had been attacked after the game outside and one of them had a broken arm judging from the picture.
It was never going to work.
This. I would like to think the players will be somewhat protected from racism, yes there may be some shouting from the stands but at least they can get on their coach afterwards and go back to their hotel/training ground etc where security will be high on the agenda. I'm far more concerned for your average fan in the stands given what we have seen in the media etc.
Having said that I have been to Krakow and absolutely loved it, felt very safe and didn't see any unsavoury incidents and there were tourists from all countries there. Having said that though - I'm white so was probably not as likely to come across it.
I'm also in no way saying that shouting from the stands isn't deplorable either btw!
