In EVERY league fixture this season we've arguably been second best for the majority of the match, possibly with the exception of Sunderland but only just. Each game has shown us being nervy, sluggish, woeful in possession, keen to crawl over the line for a draw and waste time far too early AND frankly awful, awful, awful from set pieces.

It's been long overdue a change in personnel and time to get the younger lads involved, such as Ferguson, Sammy and Bigi. Hell I'd even consider giving Marveaux and Obertan a chance. They can't give the ball away any cheaper than our 'top lads' at the moment.

If you give possession away too easily and fail to exhibit more composure than just lumping the ball up to the opposing keeper then you will struggle in the Premier League. Why are we always just clinging on all the time when we find ourselves in front?
I knew that if we gave Liverpool the kind of license to play second half as we did in the first that they would surely equalise, most likely going on to win it.

Yes Liverpool is a tough place to go, but we've made West Brom and Aston Villa look like world beaters at HOME. I just can't work out why we have so many technically gifted and clever footballers who are not just humbled by inferior opponents (how many of our midfield would you swap for Liverpool's?) but more than that, humbled by an inability to pass, move and retain the ball when they need to most. It's been happening too often this season and we've relied too much on luck than judgement as far as gaining points which is worrying.
from a certain other board <scratch>
some good points

Saying top 4 sounds good until seeing how many times are actually fighting for 4th <laugh> Top 3 are way gone, cannot see anyone catching.

Im more frustrated. we capable of much more than we have shown this season. it could have been worse so far but also it could have been better.

Content. Not happy. With Krul and Colo in for every game we'd have another 6 points by now.

Watching us play this season has been such a slog <neg>, but I'm content with our results.

Our European campaign has definitely been the most enjoyable part of the season so far, hopefully we go on a good run. <diva>

I'm very happy, we are in touch with the top four, we haven't played well at all, plus we have had very hard fixtures so far. A few wins and we will be in a great position

I'm just annoyed that we have yet to play anywhere near as good as we usually can apart from brief spells. Pretty much EVERY match we've won or drawn it we've dragged our feet and just lumbered over the line. It's starting to become very tiresome.
Don't forget that by this time last year we'd simply been lucky and hadn't played anyone of note ;)

Expectations due to last year's success are most likely higher now and as such we're in a strange position where we think we're doing alright but still have room for improvement.

Had we been playing like this last season and managed to have 14 points on the board after 10 matches we'd have been pretty satisfied that the team was doing well and happy with the results.

Llambias and Pardew admitted that last season the squad had progressed in terms of achievements and results faster than the initial 5 year plan set out so we're still ahead of the game.

If anything it seems to me that this season should have been us last season and last season should have been us this season to meet the long term plan.

As others have said, games v Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, Sunderland away, WBA and Spurs aren't the easiest of fixtures by any stretch. So to be within touching distance of the top 6 is great. We're not going to finish 4th IMO, if we finish 6th and have a good run in the Europa League / FA Cup I'll be very happy with the season. And we're on track to achieve that.

Perhaps the most pleasing aspect is that Ferguson and Sammy are starting to live up to their potential and have a good influence on the first team.

We've a winnable run of games coming up, if we get 6 points from West Ham and Swansea then we're in a very good position.
Pretty much this. I'm also pleased we're taking the EL fairly seriously and look like we're going to cruise through the group stages.

There isn't day that goes by when I don't bless our little cotton socks that Hitler opted to focus his Nazi minions on winning the battle against poor grammar instead of holding the Eastern Front.

As long as we're in touch with the top 4 in Jan I think we'll strengthen the team/squad and push on so yes I'm satisfied with our start to the season. I think its more the performances people have been bothered by more so than the results Villa aside but it just gives me confidence that when we do start performing that we'll really kick on and given the run of games we have coming up this is a great chance for that. .
