If we start creating chances Joelinton will score more than 5. If we don't it doesn't matter who plays up top.

Considering the size of the cheer on Saturday, clearly a significant chunk of the fanbase have come to the realisation that Carroll is a worthless knacker and doesn't warrant an expectation of more than 3 goals of contribution this season, if that.

He was signed as a third choice striker - the idea being he's a different proposition to Joelinton and Gayle / Muto. The expectation was him to play 20-25 mins for up to 15 matches only.

It does beg the question we all asked at the start of the seasons - how many goals does management sincerely believe that the forward line can contribute this season? I see about 5 from Joelinton, 5 from Gayle, 2 from Muto and 3 from Carroll. It's clearly a relegation season.

Normally we wait until January to sign an injury prone dud who contributes bugger all.

''Newcastle United’s medical staff fear Andy Carroll will not be able to start a game until after Christmas at the earliest as he continues his rehabilitation from a career-threatening ankle injury.''

According to the Times he'll only be able to appear off the bench for now. So it's cameo sub appearances until Christmas. To be honest I'm not surprised with his record. Plus it's better to have him fit as a impact sub than starting and playing a full match were the likelihood is he'll get injured again and be out for longer.

Hay now. I was on the can and may have read something inflamatory online and posted it here without properly vetting it.

I blame colly.

Think the OP is very misleading, the view is he's not going to be able to start games with a view to playing 90 minutes, which is something that has never been expected, he is never going to be anything more than an impact sub for the rest of his career so this isn't really news, let alone bad news.
I think the OP deserves your tag. This is as fake news as it could get around here.

That's not what I've seen reported everywhere. He was training today, he's working his way back to fitness but there's allegedly doubts over whether he'll be fit enough to start before Christmas.

Apparently it's more due to him not playing games but can still do cameo appearances. Better news is longstaff might be coming back 😍😍
