Good chance for ASM to come back in, or if he’s not deemed ready then Murphy back on the left.
This. As some have mentioned already Murphy's cameo role was brilliant. Looked a real threat from the left, could have had a assist (cross leading to Wilson's header that hit the bar) and a goal (when he cut inside and hit a wicked shot which hit the post). I can tell even though Murphy won't be a regular starter once we start recruiting and flexing our financial muscles in the coming years he seems to be a handy squad player / impact sub type. His pace is useful on the break/transitions and Young struggled with him when he came on..

Good seeing ASM back on the filed yesterday.. I wouldn't mind seeing Murphy start tbh unless ASM's deemed to be fully fit to start. Either way our squad is looking better now in terms of depth especially thanks to Howe's coaching, man management and the improvement he's had on so many of the existing players we already have. Future's looking bright.. really excited too see how far we can go this season.

Woke up stupidly early this morning and started reading some match reviews. Every time I saw the table, I started giggling like a loon and the wife kicked me out the bedroom.

Made a coffee and sat in the lounge to continue laughing only for her to phone me to tell me to shut the f*** up so had to go for a long walk instead.

It was 5 am so she had a point.

Holy F, what a smashing that was. Almiron such a star now, Bruno has just given him the world of confidence he needed to shine it seems.
I will never sell him in a FM game ever again.

I only read pages 533-536, but it seemed surprisingly reasoned with some nice comparisons between Howe and darling Stephen gerrard who turned out to be what we all thought he would be as a manager.

The real shocker is how that thread can have reached 536 pages in the first place. I'm not going to spend all day reading it, but rather like the 5 stages of grief (or what ever it is called) I'm guessing it goes through:-

1. Entitlement
2. Superiority
3. Concern/doubt
4. Realisation
5. Acceptance.

Add in a bit of Steve bruce knocking for good measure and it would keep sociologists going for a while.

Bedsheets appear at 2. Apparently we ought to be over it by now, but that's not your decision, villa fans, is it.

Omg the Villa forum have a topic called "let's all laugh at Newcastle" and someone has wrote this on it.

https://www.villatalk.com/topic/9228-le ... /page/534/

"There's something about Newcastle that really bothers me. Yes, they have rich owners, but they haven't spent *that* much money and haven't bought any genuine world-class players (maybe guimaraes if I'm being charitable), and their manager is a good manager but not necessarily an "elite" manager as people like to describe them.

They have bought solidly and sensibly, and bought in some smart football people on the management side, and that's all well and good. I'd expect them to improve this season over previous seasons, but incrementally. Not to suddenly rocket up into the Champions League places. Even Man City with their extravagant initial spending took some time to really cement themselves at the top.

Either this is a bit of a blip and Newcastle will drop back down to upper mid table by the end of the season or something else is going on that I can't immediately see."

They are such a massive bunch of saddos it's laughable!!
To be fair, there's quite a lot of comments in that thread asking for the thread title to be changed, it was started in 2013. Also this is a nice read from a poster called MWARLEY2:
SpoilerShow
Yesterday was a controlled battering by them. Taking the ownership out of the equation , there is alot to admire.

Signings that have come in and instantly improved them.. Trippier Guimares and Botman are really really good.

Improving players that are already there. .. Almiron, Schar, Joelinton, Longstaff,

These players were beaten mentally. But look at them now.

Eddie Howe is quite obviously a brilliant coach who deserves all the plaudits.

And the atmosphere is intimidating to come into as well. Thats what you call a fortress. It really is. Crowd is baying for blood.

They have managed to get everything right in the last 12 months. Fair **** to them

Not even worth bothering about just add them to your hate list <roll> and move on ;)
Some of our fans and theirs as well as the local rags are trying to make it some sort of rivalry and it just isn't never has been never will be.

The whole blood money sports washing accusations that opposing fans throw at us would be justifiable if the majority of them wouldn't welcome a similar scenario happening at their clubs. Unfortunately they would that's the sad thing.

Thought Murphy looked good when he came on, looked dangerous cutting In from the left, also put in some decent balls with his left. Also thought Bruno wasn't up to his normal levels today, think it shows a lot of us that we had some sloppy play in parts but persisted until it all came together to the point we dominated, fantastic second half overall. Also was delighted that we scored in the added time after all the time wasting in the first half.

They'll sit back and try and frustrate us, if we score early then it could be 3 or 4 if we don't our fitness will tell late on so maybe 1-0

It's squeaky bum time!

I knew we'd be better after takeover but man this manager has done so much more.

Exceeded all expectations. It’s not even just down to money as some other fans claim. Schar, Willock, Longstaff, Almiron, Wilson and Joelinton were all here and failing under Bruce, Howe has turned them into some of the best players in the league on form right now (and most putting in consistently decent performances). Schar was on his way out of the club under Bruce and not playing, Almiron couldn’t hit a barn door, Longstaff had been going backwards since Rafa left, and obviously Joelinton was a laughing stock. It’s absolutely incredible.
This. You forgot Murphy too.. looks much improved and more confident than ever! Especially today when he came on.. could have scored a couple (one was a great cut in and shot but hit the bar).

Everyone should have a look at this

https://www.villatalk.com/topic/23517-m ... d/page/31/

We weren't good.
They were unlucky.
VAR f***ed them.
All decisions went our way.
2 of our goals were offside.
And just a lot of general hate.

I could count on one hand the amount of comments that give us any credit.

I'm so glad we smashed them. Can't stand them. Really hope it goes t*** up for them and they end up going down and staying there.
I spent time lurking on their match thread, was interested to see their reactions if we beat them, the denial was hilarious, also special mention of the "never a penalty" for the Young handball 😂.

Hate them and Everton for the way their fans went on over the past few years. Was great to smash them today.
I was also lurking on their forum, and to give them their due, the vast majority of them agreed it was a penalty, albeit a bad slice of luck. There was a lot of anger and frustration and general moaning, but I'm sure most of us (myself included) have done much the same during a bad period. Reading their forums and looking at that performance today, they sound to be in much a similar position as we were in the final days of Bruce, just ticking along, players unfit and not caring, the manager not really coaching tactics. Run around a bit and hope for the best.

Also, special mention to this poster, who comes across as a fairly calm, reasonable person:
"First up, well played Newcastle - we gave them a good contest in the first half, but they had the belief, the ability and the confidence to push on and beat us well. They look a good side and I think they're capable of achieving things this season."

<awe>

Not since Bobby Robson days have we gone into matches with such swagger and so little fear. And those were some great teams, going every week to SJP was a privilege
