Re: Football Titbits

I think there's a key distinction here - is the FFP intended to manage parity and performance, or dissuade overspending and risking financial bankruptcy? I feel like people are conflating the two. Despite what clubs like Leicester would suggest, FFP isn't intended to mitigate overperformance based o...

Re: Joelinton set to sign new deal

Glad that this will be one more position we may not have to invest in - although I still think we need to recruit a proper CDM. I think Bruno, Big Joe and Tonali have the makings of a good midfield 3, however none of them are true defensive midfielders and I only think they could cover us with the s...

Re: Yankuba Minteh

I don't particularly trust our existing RWs would actually be more productive in the Netherlands right now if they were in his position - we've seen how much they specifically benefited from playing under the current coaches and system.

where'd they pull that from
The VAR review and player down injured on the touchline make it one of the more reasonable 9 minute additions we'll see this season. Just glad we saw it out.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Cottagers

Is this actual strategic rotation and not just injury motivated?! Glad to see a few names back to make for a decent XI plus a couple attacking subs.

Fulham three nil down at forest, made a triple change inside the first half. Don't see that often
If ever there was a time for that, it's when having conceded 3 to Forest in a half <gurn>

Yikes what a who's who of mediocrity on that bench. Credit to Bruno, I can't believe he's gone this long without another yellow. No excuse for him not displaying more discipline in the future - he's proven he can do it.

Re: Days lost through injury

I agree with some of that, but there's no way I'm playing Krafth or Murphy at left back ahead of Burn, and certainly not Dummett or Ritchie at this stage (I'd rather have Dummett central as did against Man City earlier this season). He's had some shaky moments, but to pin everything on him in a sea...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v 'ammers

I'm finally starting to swing into the direction of saying coaches need to go. In absence of knowing what position needs they've advocated for, the lack of CDM paired with disorganized and paceless defending has wore out it's welcome with me. There's no excuse for the weekly mistakes and seemingly n...

My unpersonalized one made it to my door in Canada within like 4 business days...though I should have listened to advice and bought one size up. It'd have been the only XL shirt I own, but it would have fit better than the L does.

Different weekend, same mistakes, same favourites, same s****.
I still feel like we missed a trick not trying to attract some more proven talent in the summer before CL, and instead now we'll be trying to negotiate off the back of an underwhelming season.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Citeh

I think this is really harsh, second game on the bounce he's getting no cover. For the goal Silva wasn't his man, he was getting overlapped and still managed to nearly get a block in. It's a bit of both for me. He's a CB out of position and it's telling, but he's being put in a position to fail Tha...

If Burn isn't getting torched for pace, he's back peddling scared away from the ball to avoid them beating him 1:1. He's basically become an Iron Mike fullback.

Re: Gordon in England Squad

Unlike Southgate to call up a player based on form! Definitely deserves it for how he’s performing with us and how he played for the u21s. Tho Rashford will still play ahead of him when tho he’s been absolutely s*** all season. In minor defense of Rashford, he has seemingly regained form and has 5 ...

We've conceded more away goals than ANY other team in the league this season.
Inexcusable really - especially considering all the health issues we've had, the backline itself hasn't been the worst hit.

Rafa sacked by Celta Vigo after 8 months in charge - seems a bit of a busted flush nowadays.
4 spots lower in the table, with a GD already 3 goals worse than last season too. Without familiarity of their personnel decisions, nobody can suggest he's improved their performance.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Chelsea

Considering how awful our bench has been this season, I'd rather some of the current starters move to back-ups and replace the true cloggers wasting squad spaces with the upgrades. More than anything, I really need to see the decision makers demonstrate they know which positions require upgrades, an...

Why haven’t they ranked it in order of days lost instead?
Thought that myself. Would have made more sense.
The number of players injured (at one time) tends to be more impactful than the duration of any one individual injury - so I'd imagine that's why it's ranked by injuries instead of days.

Credit to Bruno for staying out of the book for 5 matches. Demonstrates he can be disciplined with enough motivation. Hopefully this can teach him a less to be more preventative before running up against a suspension.
