Re: Football Titbits

Agree with everyone else. Was an interesting player to watch among a relatively boring lot of players in 2010-11 (once HBA was injured and Carroll was off to 'Pool), but by the time he was fussing about Cabaye taking corners in pre-season (11-12) I was fed up with his unnecessary drama. Ultimately t...

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

Schar has signed a one year extension to take him through to the end of next season. Only just turned 32, so good piece of business as he has been superb under Howe and rarely misses games (despite seemingly getting injured or ending up in a heap on the floor every single match <laugh> ). I think o...

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

I'm of the mind that if a club doesn't value their player enough to play them, they shouldn't expect other clubs to value them at a premium. Sure, Phillips is worth more to others than them given their quality, but give your head a shake for committing 250k a week to a player that apparently they co...

Re: Other Clubs Transfers/Rumours/Wishlist

I don't get much Canadian content when it comes to transfer windows, but Tajon Buchanan, arguably top 3 player from our national team moved to Inter last week. I'm really surprised Jonathan David is still at Lille, and wish he were a versatile forward we'd target - though his productivity has slowe...

Most professional performance I've seen in years
Kinda reminded me of Dortmund's performance against us at SJP - and I say that as a compliment. Not that we played as poorly as Sunderland, just demonstrated a similar pragmatic calmness and confidence.

Great tackle Burn. Miley having a bit of a mare since coming on.
The most tentative I've seen him playing. Too indecisive on loose balls and passes as if he keeps thinking they're for someone else.

That’s never a yellow for Bruno.
It’s a midfielders clean tackle ffs
More egregious because it was only a second after Bellingham had an identical tackle on Gordon not called (not that either should have been).

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v sunlun

I'll blame the push in the back that put him in an awkward position to follow through for the cross.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v sunlun

I'd like to believe Isak would have buried that had it gotten through to him. But I like a rattled CB going forward.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v sunlun

Wouldn't have been a PK having started outside the box, but at least a yellow?

We look quite laboured, not sure if it’s to take the sting out of the tie
I don't think we look too bad compared to the last few games.
I'm trying to perceive it as controlled rather than laboured, but hope when the time is right we crank up the pace and pressure a bit more.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v sunlun

Early on and I'd like a few less long balls and it still feels like an inevitability that he'll get beat for pace for a goal. That early race was worrying before the shoulder to shoulder.

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

Of course there's a difference between France and Saudi (though that will close rapidly, especially with the likelihood of so many Saudi sides in the new Club World Cups (discussed in some detail on the latest Guardian Football Weekly)), but a move from the PL to Ligue 1 is unquestionably a step do...

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

Let's get off our high horses in thinking PSG is a step down - they're one of the world's most prominent clubs, and generally have been competitive in the CL for years now. That they now have their own dedicated stores around the world, including here in Toronto is representative of that. A less com...

Re: FA Cup football

What was the rationale behind choosing Palace v Everton for TV coverage? <laugh> Tho nice to see everton’s 1980s style shirt matches their style of football. I think the TV thinking of airing PL pairings is all wrong. Maybe if it was a more glamorous fixture it'd be worth it, but otherwise I can wa...

The owner getting dragged for that but I can't imagine he's involved in stupid day-to-day stuff like temporary decals in a bar. Hilariously stupid from whomever was responsible though!

Re: Football Titbits

The thing I don't get is that obviously the reason it keeps rearing it's head is money and the fact that the Spanish clubs in particular want more, but I don't understand how it will actually generate more than the Champions League does already. By their daft video essentially the "Star League" (it...
