On Sunday ToonForum turned three, unfortunately I was neglectful and forgot about it (although I've not seen any of you lot bring it up ).
ToonForum's third year wasn't as eventful as the first two, the only major changes being an overhaul of the site's theme, including slightly better support for mobile devices, and the spinning off of the blog to its own domain and name, ToonBlog, rather than the cumbersome ToonForumBlog. I suppose another fairly big change is in our anti-spam policy, rather than manually vetting/activating new members, we implemented a bunch of automatic anti-spam measures, including restricting what new members can do for a while, and opened up registrations to all again, as well as enabling guest posting. Otherwise the main developments of the site have been continued minor improvements to existing features.
This coming summer I'm thinking of porting the forum to the newly released phpBB 3.1, unfortunately this will mean dedicating a good chunk of time to rebuilding our modifications, so I can't make any promises there.
With the end of the 13/14 season came the conclusion of the first season of the relaunched and active blog, which has since seen over 200 new articles published on it. A big thank you to all who have wrote for it. That first season was very much a learning experience, but we quickly found our feet and established a few regular articles to consistently put out; the match preview, Yacob's opposition interviews, and the TFI reports. For this season I wanted to try to establish a team of writers and to give them better credit than we had previously, so I asked those who had been the most active for the blog in 13/14 if they'd like something like that. A big thank you in particular to Yacob, TJR and COT for their extensive help on the blog this season. If anyone else wants to be involved, let me know.
The 13/14 season also saw the conclusion of the first season of the fully fledged ToonForumIndex, thanks to Beatski for his work on it, I think it went well and really came together as the resource I'd like it to be for the season review series of articles. Unfortunately I couldn't get a more advanced version (which would save a lot of time on our end) set-up for this season and we've fell behind, but when time allows I'll try to catch-up, and thanks to COT for getting the ball rolling again in recent weeks.
Probably not the most exciting of news to our users, but this past year was the first whole year that I've had in charge of keeping the site alive and self-sufficient, which I can now confirm that it is, even with the server upgrade (October 2013) that doubled the cost of hosting. Also, the week of Pardew's departure set a new activity record as we had 7.8k visitors / 16k sessions for 28/12/14 to 03/01/15, compared to our previous best in the week we saved ourselves from relegation with a win over QPR, in which we had 6.6k visitors / 14k sessions, although it did have a slightly higher single day record. The January 2014 transfer debacle and decline in form had several weeks come close to this record without quite surpassing it, while the January 2013 spending spree holds the month records.
I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone, and another thank you to Skalps for getting this place started.
PS: I bought TF a present, 2n4.im, IDK why.
