Far too many people think the government should be immune to scrutiny over this period.

See Johnson as some sort of martyr as he's caught it.

We live in a nation in which a cult is in power.

America just forced GM to make ventilators. Not sure how I feel about that. Should a government be able to force a private company to make things? Flies heavily in the face of everything American capitalism stands for.

Leaving aside for one moment whether I like what American capitalism stands for and whether it is a good thing to go against it.

There is precedent for this, it was invoked for the Korean War for instance. It also depends on how you look at the principals of free market. Right now execs and money men at GM are probably very concerned about sales prospects for cars at a time of high uncertainty. Would you be thinking of buying a new car when you don't know whether you are going to have a job in a few days, weeks or months? I wouldn't. But instead they have the opportunity to switch production and maintain an income stream, they are after all going to get compensated for it. They also get the PR bonus of having helped out the American public during a crisis. It will likely be forgotten that they had to be forced to do it.

In their shoes I wouldn't have had to be forced to do it, I would have done it as a business decision.

The same GM who had to be bailed out in 2009?

Great point. It would appear they only like government interference in their business when it is to their benefit. It's payback time b****es!

First day of furlough and woke up at the usual time so pottered around the house tidying and cleaning and was done by 7am.

Spent the next 5 hours trying to find stuff to do before beer o clock was reached.

One benefit of this quarantine is definitely that a good amount of people have started running.

Been forced in to self isolating by my girlfriends flatmates girlfriend having a persistent cough and them being general jerks. They went and visited said flatmates sick mother and brought it back to the house while I was there/here and now I've been stuck in not-my-house for a week and a half now. It's sooo boring
