Re: Armstrong and Toney
I think though it helps to get in and get settled and get playing for a team that suits your game. Doesn't always go like that on loan. No doubt that, as a striker in the Championship, you want to be at Brentford. They're a selling club who play attacking, expansive football and create chances. That is part of the model and it's great for player and club. They wouldn't want to loan a striker they can't sell, then you're sending him to a lesser club who are happy for the loan and maybe he doesn't become the player he is. I get the theory, I just think being farmed out on loan to desperate/poor clubs wouldn't have had the same impact on his career as knowing he is the main man at Peterborough and he can have a life there etc.

Re: Armstrong and Toney
A bit harsh on the lad. He's only just 24 now and he's scored 14+ per year for 4 seasons, and surely topping that this year to make it 5 in a row. Obviously that's all competitions I'm talking about, but still. That's decent consistency to start your professional career, and seems it should have been enough potential shown to keep him 'round a bit longer.Captain Obvious wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 12:45 pmBut the point is he needed to get a move to get settled, refocus and develop his game. They player we sold has scored 25 goals in 89 League 1 games. He moved to Peterborough and scored 16 goals in League 1 in his first season. That's not that good. But he learned and improved and got 24 last season which earned him a move to Brentford. And he'll continue to get better at Brentford this season and will likely eventually make the step up to the Premier League. To think we could have just kept him and shoved him in at PL level and have the player he is now or will go on to be is madness. This is a total non-story. He needed the move to become the player we now wish we had. It's like some sort of paradox.

I wonder if Joelinton could score 10 league goals in the Championship for Brentford?

Toney up to 22 goals and 7 assists, phenomenal first season in the Championship.
Be it with Brentford or someone else he may well be playing for a PL side next season.

I'd be surprised if both aren't playing PL football next season.

Will probably have him for a cheap striker in my fantasy team next season! He’s got about 9-10 assists now as well as 23 league goals.

Re: Armstrong and Toney
More likely to sign someone like Deeney on a "free" transfer. 100% off sale

Re: Armstrong and Toney
Knowing us.. we'll replace Gayle & Carroll with Deeney.
2 over 30s for another over 30s
Talking about free agents this summer.. Thauvin, Moussa Marega, Giroud, Lucas Vazquez & Vincent Abkoubar are all realistic targets. Not saying Thauvin would come back but yeah you never know.
https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/transfe ... 0&yt0=Show
I'll personally go for Moussa Marega and/or Vincent Akboubar.. Thauvin will have better offers & unlikely to want to come back, Giroud will have better offers & will want Champions League football.. Lucas Vazquez is more of a winger than a striker but could be useful if we get rid of Ritchie/Atsu/Murphy.. good solid winger/wing-back with technical ability & crossing ability. I don't know if he'll come due to lack of European football & wages might be a issue?
