Tiote's value has been tanking for years, and at this point he probably doesn't hold any at all with his contract running down. Neither player plays the role we've been missing and should replace as soon as possible, which is a playmaking CM, so regardless of whether we sell either we should bring in a CM if one is available. We probably could use at least one of them as a backup CDM to finish out the season, but at this point I don't care which one.

To be fair to the club, they've been trying to sell him for years, and multiple times agreed fees with clubs only to have the deal fall through once he'd arrived to meet and negotiate with them.

A lot of injuries. A lack of match fitness. A playing style that takes a toll on the body and requires being in peak condition. Few good CM partners over the past years. And the knowledge that the club has viewed him as surplus for years.
