Big salaries and injuryproneness aren't a great mix for a club looking for value. He could be a good addition, but he's definitely a risk.

Chelsea are interested in Danny Drinkwater.
If he does go then he'll just sit on the bench and be a backup

Would have been a decent signing.

Easier to live the retired life after you've doubled your wages though. It's easy for us to prioritize a player playing, but their career is short, and it's ultimately a job - one in which they probably missed learning any real career skills or getting an education. Now I do have stronger feelings about young players who stunt their career by making a big move too soon in their development, and playing the rest of their career in the lower leagues. But a player like him who has played an important role in a league championship, only a few years left, I can hardly judge him for taking an opportunity to make that money.Toon Ireland wrote:1,000,000% play football while you can. I suspect that even on his meager wages at Leicester he could give up work today and still live a very comfortable life.I'm over Colo wrote:Easier to live the retired life after you've doubled your wages though. For most PL players nowadays it won't be a case of will I have enough money at the end of my career to live on, it will be a case of how much money do I have.

Most footballers love football, but if you are forced to play it 6 days a week from the age of 10 then you'll probably not be too fussed about sitting on the bench at 28.Bodacious Benny wrote:I suspect that even on his meager wages at Leicester he could give up work today and still live a very comfortable life.I'm over Colo wrote: Easier to live the retired life after you've doubled your wages though. Not sure most are forced to play when they're kids, i'd suspect the majority play football as a kid because they enjoy it. If they didn't they'd never get to the stage where they could become a pro. There will be exceptions to that but not many. I reckon if you surveyed every registered pro annonymously and asked "do you enjoy sitting on the bench" it'd be an overwhelming 'No'.ALF wrote:Most footballers love football, but if you are forced to play it 6 days a week from the age of 10 then you'll probably not be too fussed about sitting on the bench at 28.Bodacious Benny wrote:

Sure, but there's likely a big difference between sitting on the bench at Peterborough if you could instead be playing more at Plymouth, than sitting on the bench for the league champion, training with the world's best, playing in cup matches, and making a shedload of money.Bodacious Benny wrote:Not sure most are forced to play when they're kids, i'd suspect the majority play football as a kid because they enjoy it.
