Woodman is starting to get a bit of a reputation now (saving that pen in the World Cup, playing for the U21s, training with the senior team), we need to start blooding him with the view to making him our no. 1 within the next couple of seasons or he'll be off I reckon.

Nah, he's our 3rd choice isn't he. He probably would have done if we'd gotten a keeper in or, you know, used one of the two international goalkeepers we let go as 3rd choice.

I'm completely against throwing young players into the deep end, but I honestly can't imagine him being that many levels below Darlow & Elliot. I wouldn't be totally against him stepping up if Darlow or Elliot go through bad patches.

If the coaches decide he's better than our two first teamers I'm sure he'll come in, but there's no need to rush in a keeper. Look what happened to Joe Hart, lauded in his early twenties and now likely to lose his England berth.

It's a bit different for a keeper. Outfield players need to be playing at that age, a keeper has a bit more leeway. A year with the first team will be beneficial, or maybe a loan move in Jan for a few months.

Would anyone take Bassong back for cover? Jan Kirchhoff was decent for a bit with the mackems wouldn't mind him as CB/CM cover? Joe Ledley as a alternative to Hayden? Anyone remember Giuseppe Rossi, now 30 but could play that AM role and show Perez a thing or two?

We're fine for centre halfs, I'd sooner have kept Hanley than bring Bassong in. Kirchoff did look decent. I'd have Joe Ledley just to reclaim his song so we can get shot of Jonjo. And if Rossi could stay fit I'd have him without a second thought.

Rossi is the one that stands out in that list for me but I think he has been destroyed by injuries over a few years now

Agreed. I never meant to suggest that we should get him playing as soon as possible, just that if Darlow and Elliot were to get injured or severely needing dropped, I certainly wouldn't consider Woodman a big step down.
