Match Day thread . NUFC v Leicester

Post by Toondes » Sat Dec 09, 2017 6:21 am

Leicester City (h) - Live on BT sport

The Magpies host Leicester City at St. James' Park on Saturday in a televised 5.30pm kick-off.

The game is a sell-out and the visitors have taken their full allocation of 3,000 places in L7.

Saturday is 125 years to the day that the club was renamed from Newcastle East End to Newcastle United at a public meeting, a more popular choice than alternatives: Newcastle and Newcastle city .

NUFC: Jamaal Lascelles and Christian Atsu both return to the squad, while Paul Dummett has a reserve team runout on Friday night as he nears a comeback.

Should he keep his place, Karl Darlow will complete a half century of appearances for Newcastle (currently he's made 45 league starts + four in the League cup .
Parking: Northumbria University offer weekend car parking to the public for £4 all day (or £1 per hour). 500 spaces are available at Lipman and City Campus East: book online here or turn up to pay & display.

LCFC: To follow. Old boy Danny Simpson remains a regular starter for the side.

The Foxes arrive looking for their third successive PL victory, following home wins over Burnley and Spurs.

Now managed by former Southampton boss Claude Puel, City are also looking to extend their unbeaten away run to six games.

Losing their first two games on the road - 3-4 at Arsenal and 0-2 at Manchester United - they then won 2-1 at Swansea and drew another four games - at Stoke (2-2), West Ham & Huddersfield (1-1) and Bournemouth (0-0).

Referee: Neil Swarbrick - a second visit to SJP this season for the Lancashire-based official, who took charge of the 3-0 victory over West Ham.

Travel: No scheduled Metro disruptions.

Roads around SJP will be traffic free from 3pm onwards (earlier than usual due to the 125th anniversary stuff), with these junctions closed:

Strawberry Place/Leazes Park Road
Strawberry Place/Barrack Road
Strawberry Place/St James Street
Strawberry Lane

Need to win today. Anything less will be a poor result, no excuses.

Cue the inevitable 2-0 loss.

Really looking forward to this tonight. Pre match plans sound great, it's going to be a special atmosphere.

Hopefully events on the pitch can live up to those planned off it. It would be very Newcastle United to lose on our birthday though.

I always found the top to be alright, somehow the roof and sides kept it warmer. Corner of Leazes and East is the coldest I've ever been at a football match, and typically it was the one I took my wife to. She's never been back.

Playing like this they'd still beat us. No way would we be pressing like West Ham.

Leicester won their previous two matches and I don't think they are gonna win 3 in a row - so - my guess is draw or we're gonna win.

Not feeling totally optimistic about this to be honest. I think it'll be a scrappy 1-1 draw.

Tbh, that prediction is quite optimistic... I fear Vardy tonight.
