Footballers who bet their life away

Post by daib0 » Tue Aug 28, 2018 1:47 pm

‍This is a moving article, worth the entire read:

This footballer lost over £200,000 to gambling. Now he helps others who are struggling - Ex-player Scott Davies explains how the lifestyle of being a professional footballer led him to serious gambling addiction and, in the end, feeling suicidal

I had no idea of this lifestyle. And it focusses on a (ex)Reading player ... I imagine that this problem is much more serious than so far has come out amongst pro footballers? Thoughts?

There's loads who've come out with similar issues, Keith Gillespie being the high profile one. See the link, or read his autobiography! Too much money, too much time to do stupid things with it.

Normal people have had their lives ruined by gambling, rich footballers have had their lives ruined by gambling.
I'm the scumbag outlaw. You're the pillar of justice. Neither of us like looking at ourselves in the mirror. Do we have a deal?

Agreed. The only difference is the footballers spend more money before bankruptcy arrives, but the result is the same.
