My shortlist for the race is

Imperial Commander
Ballabriggs
Chicago Grey

and my sneaky e/w outsider is Any Currency who should stay the trip and is 66/1 so could well sneak into the top 5 at the death.

Worth noting the e/w terms before you place a bet. Most firms are top 4 but some are top 5. Bet Victor go top 6.

Ballabriggs? My theory with him is that since he won it however many years ago he's gone to s*** but the fact that he has won it keeps his odds fairly short. I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

However do bare in mind that I don't have any idea what I'm talking about when it comes to horse racing, but its fun to pretend like you do <ok>

14 2P1536 FORPADYDEPLASTERER 11-11-00

Thomas Cooper IRE Andrew J McNamara

Consortium of owners include folk who once owned Sunderland FC. In their red and white scarves, the band of Irish racing fans sometimes sing 'Forpadydeplasterer, they never go fasterer.' Maybe even when they are, er, a bit plastered. A high-quality steeplechaser in his prime. Possibly not the force of old, and stamina question, but no forlorn hope.

Rating: 7/10 Odds: 9-1

How funny is it that the one non-Newcastle fan gets the Sunderland horse <roll>

7/10? 9-1? WE CAN DO THIS FORPADYDEPLASTERER <divax> <divax>

I think that's a touch unfair on the horse Whitchester. The stats re horses National winning horses winning any race again are terrible because the handicapper goes to town on them and it certainly takes a special horse to win this race twice but he is now only 2lbs higher than when winning the race 2 years ago (last year he was rated 8lbs higher than today and got round in 6th). Now 12 years old it's a big ask sure but we know he stays the trip and likes the fences so for me he's a solid e/w bet.

Cobalt Station <ok> looks like it's at 12/1 at the moment. Cheers! Also put a cheeky £2 each way on it :)

With all logic out the window, I've got bets to place on

Ballabriggs 18/1
Quel Esprit 40/1
Colbert Station 11/1
Teaforthree 12/1

<cheers>

Quel Espirit is a decent bet for a place, I've got money on him.

Yeah I reckon the odds are so long because it's being over shadowed by Ruby Walsh on On His Own. The bookies and pundits rarely ever favour two horses from the same trainer unless that trainer is Ted Walsh.

Definitely worth an EW bet especially if you can get 5 places paid.

But then I know nothing about the National <ok>
