I've heard a few people criticise the mechanics but I don't notice the problems to be honest. I think the main reason I don't notice it is because the graphics, story and most of all set-pieces are so good. Combat and movement were tightened up a lot in UC2. The improvements between that and UC3 weren't as great. I definitely recommend getting UC2 though.
