I'm in no way saying we will be near EL places, but if we get a good run before xmas and get in the top half a January signing could help push us on.Southern fairy wrote:As much as I massively disagree with that, I applaud your optimism!Le Quiff wrote:Just watched the MOTD highlights, **** me, how good was Butland!? Looks like we're playing some great football now and I'm impressed with the amount of actual good chances we've created. 36 shots in 2 games and should of really scored about 5 or 6. Going forward we will definitely be safe with that attacking prowess. Depending on January signings we may even challenge for Europa League.
I didn't realise we'd had 36 shots in 2 games. That's incredible that not one has resulted in a goal. We are clearly playing well and creating chances though so I'm doing my best to take positives from these results..

Based on last January, don't be so sure. That time we was safely in the middle, and don't buy a single player. And now we need LB, CB and ST only to start thinking about Europe... because this lethargic defence, can't even push us in top 8. From the back five, we have only Janmaat and Mbemba.Le Quiff wrote:I'm in no way saying we will be near EL places, but if we get a good run before xmas and get in the top half a January signing could help push us on.Southern fairy wrote:

Maybe I sound a bit like a cynic, but this is because Newcastle's politics through the years.

Except we have this 3 window plan to redevelop the squad according to McClaren - so we will sign players regardless of our position. Hopefully if we are lower we'll sign more, for more money.

Nah we will buy in January, we have to. Matip Williams and a Cabaye replacement would transform the squad, there will be no weaknesses.
Wonder if De Jong has a future here though, can´t see where we would play him. Suppose we need a proper DM as well.

De Jong surely has a future here if he wants one - as a back up to Gini at the very least. Whether he would settle for that, I'm not sure.

Does not really suit our high pressing game though, I would like for him to showcase his ability though. Like you said would not get in our starting 11, he a true proffesional though. Asked for a run out in reserves to get some game time.
Re: Newcastle Utd 0 - 0 Stoke City - 31/10/15
Confusing thing about De Jong is McClaren was bigging him up pre season and he's done nothing with him since.
Re: Newcastle Utd 0 - 0 Stoke City - 31/10/15
Problem with De Jong is he doesn't fit into this current formation we play.
He isn't suited to a wide role and the CM in this formation play to deep for him. To shoehorn him in we'd have to drop Perez which would be a ridiculous decision as he's one of our best players.

Other problem with de Jong is you can't plan a team around him as he's a crock. It'd be like building our defence around Taylor.

To be fair, yes he's had some serious injuries recently, but that's not representative of his entire career. Saylor on the other hand...Bodacious Benny wrote:Other problem with de Jong is you can't plan a team around him as he's a crock. It'd be like building our defence around Taylor.

Saylor must be in Dyer territory now for the amount of time missed with injuriesI'm over Colo wrote:To be fair, yes he's had some serious injuries recently, but that's not representative of his entire career. Probably worse at this point, he's been around a longer than Dyer was. Although I guess that continued for him long after he left us anyway.Bodacious Benny wrote:Saylor must be in Dyer territory now for the amount of time missed with injuriesI'm over Colo wrote: To be fair, yes he's had some serious injuries recently, but that's not representative of his entire career. De Jong is quality but just far too slow in every thing he does. Maybe with game time he can adapt to the pace who knows

If he did, it'd be back to Ajax and it'd be this summer. Dependant on game time/form/fitness this season really.
Joe Kinnear: "I think they've got some magnificent midfield players; Tiote, Ben Afri, Yohan Kebab, Sissoko are very solid."
