Bitcoin

Post by Sir Bobby » Wed Nov 29, 2017 6:57 am

There's very little on this forum about cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin considering how popular it seems to be becoming. In fact, practically the only reference to it is 4 years ago where Mifune states it isn't worth getting involved. I don't want to rub his face in it too much but had he invested £500 that week he would have woken up today with around £60,000. So since it seems to be gaining more and more traction both in regular Joe world and in financial markets, what are people's thoughts? Is it going to crash? Will it ever be adopted as a genuine form of payments for things? Will the government start regulating it before it gets out of control? Has anyone invested?

Personally I'm annoyed I waited so long to invest since I considered it a year ago but only ended up doing it 3 months ago. However in that time I've doubled my money so can't exactly complain too much.

I don't have a clue what it is.

I wish I'd invested in Brewdog 10 years ago. Their shares have rocketed.

Seriously though, it'll have to be regulated at some point I imagine. I don't understand enough about economics to say whether it could ever become a viable currency. But it seems to a layman like me though that there'll eventually be the need for some kind of international reserve currency. Maybe something like bitcoin would do the job, I dunno.

Same here, and I'm basically clueless about how I'd go about doing it in the first place. I've got a relative who's a bit of a genius at it though, maybe I'll ask for advice one day but I'm not even slightly interested in the whole thing (besides the part where someone gives you a bunch of money) so I doubt it'll be any time soon.

The dream of investing a little money in a random company that ends up becoming the next Microsoft <awe>

I’m hoping for either that or the lottery

I've heard great things about a company named Compu-Global-Hyper-Mega-Net.

In 2011 1 Bitcoin was worth 1 US Dollar. 1 Bitcoin is now worth over $11,000.

John Mcafee predicts 1 Bitcoin to be worth $1m by 2020. His initial prediction was $500,000 but that was based on a $5k worth at the end of this year.
