I'd definitely leave Armstrong in the championship next season. Still haven't seen anything to show he's ready for top flight football, he's only performed consistently at League One level for Coventry and Blackburn. Started well at Barnsley last season but then completely vanished.
If he can become consistent at Championship level then perhaps could start looking if he could make it as a PL squad player.

ALF doesn't have a clue what he's taking about. I thought you'd have sussed that after six years on here, not to mention the Not606 days.beardface wrote:Dwight Gayle absolutely dicked the Championship last season, but you'd rather Armstrong based on him doing OK in League One.ALF wrote:

Re: Loan Watch
It's based on him being 8 years younger and Gayle not being good enough at this level. I'd rather play an unproven youngster who's been playing well at a lower level than someone who has proven themselves to not be a Premier League player over multiple seasons.beardface wrote:Dwight Gayle absolutely dicked the Championship last season, but you'd rather Armstrong based on him doing OK in League One.ALF wrote:

I actually agree with ALF. Gayle isn't good enough at this level. I don't think Armstrong will be either, but I'd have him in the squad as a 3rd choice striker or some such. We need to bring in a proper heavyweight centre forward, although that's easier said than done. Stretching the realms of possibility somewhat, I'd have Welbeck as a priority target. We'd never afford his wages, and could maybe scrape the required fee (1 year on contract) but he'd probably have better options. For me though it's key we keep Mitrovic. In my opinion he's better than every single forward we currently have at our club. We could arguably raise 20m from selling him, but that money is no good if we can't use it to good effect. I'd also argue we'd get a similar amount for Gayle to a top end Championship club (Stoke been linked, I'm sure FUlham will be back in for him if they don't come up/don't get Mitrovic.)

Gayle is a big bag of w***. Joselu is an oil tanker of w***.
If Armstrong can only be a pint of w*** he's better.

Not sure I a agree that Welbeck is the right choice but agree with your post. The trouble with singing Welbeck is that even with a year left on his contract he'd tick a significant amount of our transfer and wage budget, which in principle is fine as that's where we need to invest heavily, but Welbeck is very injury prone so it would be a big risk. Obviously he's not Sturridge levels of crock, but he does miss a lot of games. I think he's a decent player when fit but I'd give him a miss.CIH wrote:I actually agree with ALF. Mitrovic is definitely our best striker, some of the goals he's scored for Fulham have been class and show he's a natural goalscorer regardless of the system getting played. Although Perez has contributed more lately, the amount of good chances that he and Gayle have missed isn't food enough at the top level. Given a run of games I'm sure Mitro would have buried a few.

Re: Loan Watch
Totally agree on all points. Although all of the striker talk is moot if we don't also buy a good #10. Rafa is never going to play two strikers, and without someone capable of creating chances, and putting them away too, we're never going to score sufficient goals to compete in the top half.Bodacious Benny wrote:Not sure I a agree that Welbeck is the right choice but agree with your post. Putting the cairney-mitro partnership back together if Fulham don't come up could be feasible. I'm not really sure what other number 10s are out there. Also I'd much rather keep hold of Mitro than spunk whatever cash we get on someone like Jorgenson.

I’d rather Armstrong stay at Blackburn for another year. Must be better for his progression than being third/fourth choice here and having the fans annihilate him for not impressing during sporadic 10 minute cameos.ALF wrote:It's based on him being 8 years younger and Gayle not being good enough at this level.
