Pre-Christmas Fixtures
Okay, so to tide us over the last few days of the international break lull, what are people's realistic expectations for our games in the run-up to Christmas? The run is favorable compared to our first eight games, and if we don't pick up decent points then relegation looks like a distinct possibility. Our games are;
Brighton H - must win, anything less than 3 points isn't good enough (3)
Southampton A - we can win this as they look poor (as have we at times), but I'd take a draw (1)
Watford H - Again, think we need to win this, Watford are inconsistent (3)
Bournemouth H - they'll pose us problems, a draw wouldn't be bad (1)
Burnley A - they're picking up after being knocked out of Europe, it'll be an ugly games which they'll narrowly win (0)
West Ham H - tricky to predict, a draw would do me (1)
Everton A - can't see anything other than a defeat (0)
Wolves H - It really depends, at the moment bases on how good they look I'd take a point (1)
Huddersfield A - has to be a win here, they should be relegated this season (3)
Fulham H - Is also a must win, and we should win (3)
So I think about 16 points from those games. A few we could potentially win e.g. Southampton away, West Ham at home but we're equally likely to stuff up and lose one or both...

I think it's ambitious to have only one loss in that run, but not overly unrealistic. It's not out of reach, and I'd be very happy if the results go that way. I'd probably swap around West Ham and Watford though. Oh just seen the Burnley game is a loss as well We have to beat Brighton this weekend though, absolutely no excuses. I've been relatively optimistic so far this season, we've had some difficult fixtures and (mostly) played alright. If we fail to get the win this weekend I'll start to worry.

I don't do realism I'm afraid.
I’m not saying don’t be realistic. I tried it once and it was without doubt the worst thirty seconds of my life but don’t let my negative experience put you off.
I predict 30 points from the next 10 games, the club will be sold, Rafa will sign a five-year contract extension and the new owners will announce a frickin huge war chest for the January window which shows their clear intention to kick this Sleeping Giant in the nuts and get it moving again.

Yeah, I'm the same. Failure to beat Brighton will be a big worry.CIH wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 11:29 amI think it's ambitious to have only one loss in that run, but not overly unrealistic. Of the results we've had so far, the only one I'd have expected more from is Leicester at home for a draw maybe. Cardiff away (penalty aside), with it being their first home game back in the PL I said a draw wouldn't be bad. And Palace away is always tricky so a point away from home there was fine. I didn't expect anything from games against the top 6 teams.

Re: Pre-Christmas Fixtures
16 pts from those games would be great and would leave us on 18 from 18, which is about where we need to be at the (almost) halfway stage if we are to avoid relegation.
But like others I think it unlikely that we will pick up that many points. I think 13 or 14 is more realistic. Hope you prove to be right though.

Would have taken that at the start of the season. Ideally you want 12 points after ten games. Anything less than 20 by xmas I think you have a real battle to stay up.Donkey Toon wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 6:07 pm16 pts from those games would be great and would leave us on 18 from 18, which is about where we need to be at the (almost) halfway stage if we are to avoid relegation.

This. Quite a few matches that look winnable on paper but could easily go wrong like Wolves look like they'll end comfortable in the top 10 with there talented Portuguese stars like Jota, Nevas and Moutinho, Bourmouth are on a roll right now and have a good record in Tyneside, Burnley away is always going to be tough similar to Everton away and Watford at home isn't a gimme either they've been very good this season with the Deeny - Gray partnership and the likes of Hughes and Docoure impressing in midfield. Huddersfield, Brighton, West Ham, Southampton and Fulham we should all be beating. Out of all those 10 games before Christmas we should be realistically looking at 5 wins (15 points), 3 loses and 2 draws (2 points). So that's 17 points which would leave us on 19 points. anything less than 4/5 wins and couple draws will be disappointing and relegation will beckon.Donkey Toon wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 6:07 pm16 pts from those games would be great and would leave us on 18 from 18, which is about where we need to be at the (almost) halfway stage if we are to avoid relegation.

We need to rack up the points now, and win the "6 pointers" against the teams that will be around us... we don't win them and we're down.

We'll be lucky to have 10 points by Christmas I'm afraid.
Re: Pre-Christmas Fixtures
It's looking so bleak now. Brighton was a must win. Southampton are not looking great but we don't have the best record down there and knowing us we'll go 1-0 up then fall back let them pressure us they'll score before the 70th minute then Long will come on as sub and score a last minute winner. Predictable and painful I know.
