What was the last "great" or even good goal we scored?

Post by Chappy » Sun Jan 06, 2019 12:27 pm

I follow the Premier League on Facebook and every so often they'll share a compilation video of brilliant goals scored that day/week/month etc...

We're never on it. And it got me thinking, when was the last great goal we scored? We never score any these days. We're f***ing awful to watch.

Was a great header yeah - but I'm talking about 30 yard screamers, amazing individual runs and skilful goals...

Perez vs Leicester last season when he lobbed Schmeichel from 30 yards?

Remember that season under Pardew where we scored about 12 legitimate Goal of the Season contenders?

We've discussed it a few times at games, there really is no one in the side who can do the long rangers any more. Shelvey thinks he can, but always pulls the trigger at the wrong time and skies it, Kenedy thinks he can but blatantly can't, Ritchie's probably the only one I'd back to have a decent go. The fact Lejeune took a free kick yesterday sums up how dire our attacking players are.

Was it away to Huddersfield that we scored after a good counter? I’d say that was a good goal.

Probably Rondon's header.

Last season had a few: Saivet free kick, and Perez vs Arsenal got a lot of praise.

Yeah from memory the woodwork has denied Ritchie from a couple of screamers. Not that he’ll get into those positions anymore playing LWB..

Benitez has completely killed any flair or creativity in the side, no chance of good goals.

This.

Was thinking about this after yesterdays' game and it appears what little attacking flair we had has been coached out of the current squad.

It is notable that Yedlin barely crosses the halfway line these days, even when playing as wing back. Would be such a useful outlet but Dubravka never even looks in his direction anymore.

Who did Gayle score a screamer of a free kick at home against? I miss good free kicks, last decent one was Ki's cross cum shot (lawro) that turned into an assist.
