Match thread - Spurs v Toon

Post by Toondes » Sat Feb 02, 2019 7:41 am

Spurs (a)

Saturday sees the Magpies face Spurs in the Premier League for the second successive season at their temporary home of Wembley Stadium.

It's a 12.30pm kick-off live on Sky Sports.

United's 3,200 allocation has sold out.

NUFC: Paul Dummett, Jonjo Shelvey, Ki and Mo Diame remain out through injury while Joselu is doubtful and Yoshinori Muto still at the Asian Cup.

Miguel Almiron isn't eligible to feature as his work permit won't have been granted, but Antonio Barecca may be in the squad.

Speaking to the press on Friday Rafa said:

"Some people said: ‘Rafa will not stay unless they sign players.’ No, I will stay balanced and make a decision later, it doesn’t have to be now. We have plenty of time to sit down and talk.

"I have never said I would leave and I’m not saying just because we’ve signed two players I would sign (a new contract).

"I’m happier now than I was one week ago. Why? Because we beat Man City and signed two players. We are better equipped now. I have to be happier than I was before.”

"(Antonio) Barreca is an offensive full-back who has pace and a good left foot. (Miguel) Almiron is quick and creative. They are two players who give us something different.

"We are signing two players without experience in the Premier league. We know it may take some time.

"We are signing Almiron for not just this month, even if we need him now, he is here for five years. He can play in different positions, as a number 10 and a winger, and he has pace.”

THFC: Spurs are without Harry Kane (ankle) and Delli Ali (hamstring) but Heung-Min Son returned from the Asian Cup to play 90 minutes against Watford on Wednesday evening.

Old boy Moussa Sissoko could feature after recovering from a groin strain.

Having exited from both the FA Cup and League Cup within a four day period, Mauricio Pochettino's side recovered from going a goal down to defeat Watford 2-1 at Wembley in midweek.

Spurs have won seven Premier League games and lost four at their adopted home this season to date, Fulham, Cardiff City, Chelsea, Southampton, Burnley, Bournemouth and Watford all defeated there.

Leaving with maximum points were Liverpool, Manchester City, Wolves and Manchester United.

They haven't drawn any of their last 28 home or away Premier League fixtures.

We lose 8 nil and our record signing dislocates his wrist waving to the crowd during the match, ruling him out for the rest of the season. Normality restored.

I'd take that over him not waving. Jonas is a disgrace.

Feel like we can get a point from this. Spurs aren’t firing at all, keep it solid and we can get a draw.

Going to go for another win, we will have high confidence going into this one and Spurs are very shaky atm and missing some top players, think they could have problems breaking us down especially if we can shut down Eriksen, going for a 1-0 to us <diva>

Peak Paul Merson on soccer Saturday, apparently Almiron only worth 2m because he doesn't have a work permit, also he's a huge gamble because hes played on astro turf.

I don't know how sky can get away with him on the TV, he's obviously snorting something

It is a pisstake that he has that job. He probably thinks that we should have gone for Crouch just because he's someone he's heard of and played in the PL before.

We've played like this all season. Only reason we didn't against City is because we were 1 nil down after 23 seconds.

It’s like we are waiting to concede . Get at them. Don’t know why Rafa has bought an attacking n10 unless he’s good at defending as that’s all he’ll be doing .
