This. We can't afford to sell him knowing Hayden and Diame are most likely going to leave. That will leave us with just Longstaff and Ki. There not out and out defensive midfielders plus Shevely, so we would need at least 2 + 1 more if Shevely goes but I get the point people are making that if West Ham do offer that amount of money we need to consider it because as good as Shevely can be on his day he can also be a total liability with his reckless behavior and lackluster showings. There's a reason Liverpool sold him and Swansea decided to cut ties, the guy is talented but baggage, inconsistency and ill discipline all come into the package. I wouldn't mind if they offered 15mil + Carroll? or even better straight swap for Lanzini or give them 10mil + Jonjo. Lanzini is a quality player with his creativity, vision and technique. Imagine him, Perez, Miggy and Rondon. The four amigos.

As for the Carroll point, he's available on a free in the summer, so wouldn't even need to negotiate. If he took a big pay cut wouldn't be a bad option instead of Joselu.

It sounds like it'd make a great story; the return of the prodigal son.
However, like Rooney and Everton, I can't see a fairy tale ending for him on the pitch with Newcastle.
I bear him no ill will - but I agree he shouldn't come back as a player.

Being honest I can’t remember a thing about the circumstances before his move to Rangers, just seems a shame we lost him.

I don't recall it going down that way? I thought we didn't have plans for him so we sent him back to his home country. He's always spoken highly of Newcastle, though I think he was left wanting for opportunities - which given our dearth of FB depth over the years, he should have likely received more of.

I'll take him. Not only is he South American and Spanish speaking which means he'll settle right in with the three amigos but also would give us a different option upfront with his pace, finishing and mobility. Just give them Joselu and 6mil for his signature.

Yeah he gave an interview a few months back where he basically admitted he took his eye off the ball at Newcastle and was enjoying the lifestyle too much... similar story with a lot of our prospects around that time (Aarons and Abeid spring to mind...)
