NUFC dispute with PL over PIF takeover rejection - Lawyers at the ready

Newcastle United can confirm that the Premier League has rejected a takeover bid made by PCP Capital Partners, the Reuben Brothers and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) based on its Owners and Directors test.

This conclusion has been reached despite the club providing the Premier League with overwhelming evidence and legal opinions that PIF is independent and autonomous of the Saudi Arabian government.

The club and its owners do not accept that Premier League chief executive Richard Masters and the Premier League have acted appropriately in relation to this matter and will be considering all relevant options available to them.

Mike Ashley understands fans’ frustrations and would like to reassure them that he has been fully committed to ensuring this takeover process reached completion as he felt it was in the best interests of the club. Mike continues to be fully supportive to Steve Bruce, the players and all the staff and wishes them well for the upcoming season.

In a bizarre way this kinda makes it closer than ever to happening, I dont believe that the club, who is so reluctant to being open and transparent, would release a statement now after it was confirmed to be over weeks ago, there is literally no reason to unless the legal action was to go ahead. If I was to speculate the silence recently was because they were forcing the PL to come to a decision with the information they had. This way they have a launching point for an appeal or legal action and have nullified the argument that it was PIF that walked away.

Personally I don't think the deal with PIF, at least in the current structure, will ever happen. But I like that the club are fighting it, or at least attempting to. I don't think Staveley will go away.

This felt inevitable with so many powerful business people involved. Will be interesting to see where this goes.

I have thought it funny that for months fans talked up how excited they were to have a super filthy rich king as owner, and then when it came out that the biggest sticking point was whether the king (government) would be owner, fans were fast to suggest/believe he'd have no involvement/influence. Don't get me wrong, the league played this all wrong, and the process probably wasn't fit for purpose, but if the proponents want me to believe the KSA will have nothing to do with this, I have some swampland in Florida for Ashley to invest in.

Well it’s barely been 24 hours and I’m already bored to tears by the whole thing after scrolling through Twitter.

Who honestly gives a toss anymore? Your typical NUFC journalist hasn’t got the foggiest and is just rehashing what the last journalist said.

Can’t we just go back to positive, out-of-character NUFC transfers?

I dont know the implications of such a move but it would be interesting if the club and PIF made their submitted information public.
